Speak to any of Jo's family and they will tell you the same thing, that she showed a passionate enthusiasm for music from any early age, starting out with a bon tempi organ and making it to Grade 7 as a classical pianist ('A' levels and a degree stopping her from achieving the magical eight!).
She has 10 years experience of singing and playing keyboards behind her. In 2003, Jo won 2 awards in the 'North American Country Music Association' competition, held in The Mandrell Theatre, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. She was born in Sunderland and currently lives in Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, working as a financial adviser and also teaching at Newcastle University.
Jo has been featured on Radio Newcastle, Metro Radio, as well as in the local press, and is presently working on a third solo album of original material.
" The album is very different to the material which I perform with the band. The mellow sounds of the album are definitely a far cry from singing the likes of 'Crazy Train' or 'Sweet Child of Mine' on stage. I've thoroughly enjoyed working in the studio, and have certainly gained a lot of experience, although in my opinion, I don't think you can beat the adrenalin rush you feel when performing live to a jam packed venue.
"Having put Jo James Band together in 2005, I feel we have gone from strength to strength and have built up a great repertoire of material to suit most occasions. I enjoy every minute of every performance, as I get to work with a particularly talented bunch of musicians who have all become great friends along the way. If you haven't heard us already, get yourselves along to one of our gigs. I guarantee we'll get you dancing, singing, or even playing some air guitar before the nights out!
Major influences: Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt, Annie Lennox, Pink.
